More dolls to come!

Welcome our doll #500, Shinku!

I've always liked dolls. Each time I roam through the local flee market, they are the first thing to attract my attention - old dolls, rare dolls, someone's forgotten friends, the sleeping beauties...

I've collected anime figurines since 2005 and later naturally switched to collecting anime dolls. To my surprise, I found out that lots of people simply see no difference between a doll and a figure. If there is a blog or an article about anime dolls, it will have comments where people start showing their PVC figures ("Look, I also have an anime doll!")

There are marvellous sites about dolls, but they are in Japanese, and you know what Google Translate can do to the meaning of what is written.

That's why I decided to collect, sort and classify. I hope this website will help other collectors who'd like to learn more about dolls and share my passion for them.

ShoujoDolls is a database and blog. Items are not for sale.

Dolls should represent humans. No monsters or animal characters are allowed (unless it is a doll with a human head wearing a monster or a beast costume). A doll should have "real" clothes and/or hair. Full plastic action figures (Figma, Nendoroid etc.) or plush toys are not allowed.

Origins

Dolls listed here are based on characters of a Japanese origin (anime, manga, video game, action film/series, light novel, artwork, event or promotional activity). Manufacturers can be non-Japanese, but the dolls should be mass-produced, no customizations. Original or generic characters are not allowed.

Fields

Categories are classified in the catalogue

Name is for a doll's version, either  a specific name for the release given by manufacturer (e.g. Candy Baby) or the type (e.g. Dollfie Dream).

Character requires a character's full name (e.g. Candice "Candy" White Audrey, not Candy). Japanese names first have surname then given name (e.g. Suzumiya Haruhi, not Haruhi Suzumiya).

Origin is a full romanization of Japanese title. No English variants or abbreviations (e.g. Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai, not My Sister Can't Be This Cute or Oreimo).

Other fields are optional, although we try to learn everything about the items.

Description is for basic characteristics and distinctive features of a doll. The information on the origins or characters and links to the doll lines are placed in the additional field.

Images are strictly related to the item.
